Viewfinders

2024
BeTheMuseum, Forest Park, Queens, NYC

Artist Yvonne Shortt asked me to spend a few hours in Forest Park, Queens, with a different kind of prompt: forget scarcity, forget needing anything beyond what's already here.

I built frames and viewfinders, little portals that isolated specific sightlines. A squirrel's view through crossing branches. The slant of afternoon light a moth might chase.

Who was I framing these for?
What if the museum was never meant for us at all?
What if the park has been curating its own collection this whole time?
Who else was already looking?
Could I just make a few peepholes for the other visitors?
